To appreciate the effort of our customer and co-workers this year, we invited them to have a greeting dinner before the chinese new year. It’s like part of the taiwanese culture. We said ”Have you eaten yet?” instead of “How are you?” We bargain the quotation at dinner table. We welcome new customer or celebrate an order from the old client by luxury dinner. So, if you asked me what I learn from the 6 year international sales representative experiences. Well, eat a lot and drink a lot.

People always complains about their owned job or life style. Like, the bosses will complain they don’t know how to spend such huge amount of money they have. The movie stars will complain too many people care about their privacy that they preferred live like ordinary persons. This month, I went many dinners. I need to complain like everyone else because those dinners gain me many pounds. However, the greeting dinner our company held in Sheraton Hotel is USD 700 per table. It made my eyes bright and would like to see how a meal of dinner costs as much as someone earns per month here. (What a pity!! Can I not to attend this dinner but change this pleasure to bonus?)
We serve two tables for this dinner. Half of the guests are owners ,seriously, the major pleasure of attending this dinner isn’t enjoying the food. I will say listening to their stories and ideas taught me more than what I can learn when I studied my MBA courses. People seldom becomes success by coincidence. I heard few touching stories about how they become rich during the dinner. After I heard those stories, I will say it’s fair that they’re rich now. Here is one example storyI heard there.
There is a vice president of our heat treatment co-worker company attends this dinner. They cooperates for more than two decades. 15 year ago, when the vice president was still a director of the evening department, he saw something impressed him and he belived our company will success one day. There was an order placed with a very short leadtime and there is no supplier but my boss took this sharp order. For the short leadtime, my boss and his wife needed to work overtime but it’s not the best part of this story. After they finished their process in the factory, she brought those metal parts to the heat treatment company with carrying her new borned baby because she need to take care of both at the same time. It’s already mid-night and there is no worker there to help her put those metal parts into the heat treatment frame. It’s a hard job to putting metal parts into the heat treatment frame. First, you need to do like the farmer put the new spring into the ground for few thousand times. Second, the average temperature in the heat treatment factory is around 40 degree centigrade around the heat treatment pool. He saw a 45 kg lady carry a new born baby in back and putting metal parts into the heat treatment frame to make sure those metal parts can into the heat treatment process on time.

In 20 years, they have the pleasure to gather in a luxury dinner and talk about the old time crazy history. I think they also will tell their son or grand-son one day. After this story released, I heard some more similar stories from my customers and co-workers. For many years, I tried to find the personalities of what a boss should have. (An occupational disease!!) Sometimes I found some, but most of the time, I didn’t. I felt a bit sad because I think they don’t worthy as much money as they earned. I worthy a lot more than what I earned. It makes me easily into a self-pitying. I wonder why the god makes them success but not me. Now, I knew why it’s not me. I don’t have enough stories like what they have.
After my job give me chances to close to those executive level persons (CEOs), I found out one thing. None of them found out they’re richmen when they waked up one day morning. They started from nothing, too. To be honestly, after talked to those bosses, I really saw a totally different point of view from the staffs. People only see what they want to see. After you knew the process among those bosses’ brain, I felt it opened some parts of my undeveloped areas in my brain and it starts to be functional. I’m also someone starts from nothing, too. It encourage me a lot. I hope one day, there will be someone write the similar post after he/she talks to me.
Do I finally find out what’s the key personality or talent to be a boss? I think about this question for 9 years when I was in the school and 6 years after I work. I only can say I can smell some but not perfectly. However, based on the “case study” of this dinner. Those bosses, their the other half all stands an unbreakable trust to support each other without any condition. No one in the world can see something in her/his back. That’s couple stands for. There is only the couple stand aside and watches the other half’s back can see the whole world. Otherwise, you only can see half part of the world just like the humanbeing only can see one side of the moon. It reminds me the wedding vows. The vows aren’t only the way to manage the marriage but the only way to be success.
